Todays Topic- GETTING NAILED!!!!

Err I mean nails..

I'm all around super sensitive when it comes to my hair, my skin, my nails, and my heart.

Brittle chipping breakage means I need to be careful about what I use.

When I use cosmetics I sometimes experience an allergic reaction that can include hives, itching and rashes persist especially with the use of harsher chemicals.

I suffer from a mild form of Onychorrhexis-- weak, brittle splitting nails.

It's unattractive, uncomfortable, and an overall pain.

Google it, definitely not cute.

(My real nails, my cuticles are terrible in the winter. Please ignore the eczema on my hands-- I meant it when I said my hair, skin & nails are super sensitive)

A main ingredient in nail polish is formaldehyde- an ingredient determined to be a carcinogen by the FDA. Formaldehyde causes my already sad nails to become very weak and increases nail flaking.

Merriam-Webster definition:

carcinogen

noun car·cin·o·gen \kär-ˈsi-nə-jən, ˈkär-sə-nə-ˌjen\

Simple Definition of carcinogen

medical : a substance that can cause cancer

When I heard about the

-vegan

-cruelty free

- and toxin free nail polish exhibit at Beauty Press's #SpotlightDay (Twitter- @beautypress http://www.beautypress.com/info-website/index.html) I JUMPED at the opportunity to try it.

I BELIEVE TESTING COSMETIC PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS IS WRONG. Even those of your who approve of animal testing in labs in healthcare have to admit that there is no greater purpose to cosmetic testing for VANITY.

The two LVX Luxury Nail Laquer (Twitter: @shoplvx IG: shoplvx www.shoplvx.com) products I have the chance to try are Azure + Gel Top Coat. After further website exploration I'd say the HUGE variety of options is incredible and it took my breath away. I'd never really understood love at first sight until I saw their site. Swoon.

(This was included from the #SpotlightDay exhibit)

First impression was that I did not like the square top as I find it annoying to apply nail polish when the handle is too big.

Thankfully- that comes off and a ridged (no losing my grip) smaller easy to use handle is there.

Sidenote: My go to brands are O.P.I. and Essie.

Both have thinner and thicker applications, depending on the shade.

Azure by LVX went on smooth, and easy.

Not too thick that it got in the way, and not too thin that it requires 10 coats to cover your nail or stroke lines.

BONUS: After the first coat I could see that it was okay that I skipped a ridge filler (sometimes needed by sufferers of Onychorrhexis) and base coat was just fine. Second coat gave complete coverage. I'm a stickler for the books too- in Cosmetology school we're taught to coat the nail in three strokes.

One stroke per right side, one per left, and one in the middle.

Some of my thinner more liquidy shades in the other brands need three or more coats, and some of the thicker ones look terrible with more than one.

Before use of the top coat it was already incredibly shiny.

After first application I was happy.

It is a normal nail polish so it took a bit of time to dry.

I generally use quick dry formulas as I'm always rushing, but it didn't take more than any average nail polish would.

Initial Impression: Satisfied awaiting to see if it would last as long as they claimed (7-10 Days)

After a few days I was impressed. Normally by day two of a normal manicure my nails are a mess and I wonder why I even bother.

Minimal chips in polish appeared, but to LVX's defense, I am not careful with my hands at all. Chemicals, cleaning, and more manicure detrimental activities are a part of my everyday life.

Did it last me 10 days? No.

Did it last me longer than any other brand has? Yes.

Were my nails destroyed after taking it off? I use a very gentle polish remover, and LVX didn't seem to affect my nails at all.

BOTTOM LINE:

DO I CONSIDER THIS A LUXURY NAIL POLISH? YES. IS IT WORTH IT? YES.

This line is more expensive than others that are not cruelty free. I'm not sure if they give a professional discount. I would not pick all my fun creative colors I do not regularly use, but I would absolutely buy my top 5 favorite shades. The social responsibility alone (vegan, cruelty free, removing toxins) makes this a valuable purchase. I WOULD BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN AND REPLACE IT AS MY NEW NAIL CARE LINE. HOWEVER, MY EXPERIENCE WITH NAIL LINES WOULD HAVE ME TRY OUT ONE OR TWO MORE SHADES AND STYLES BEFORE I BUY EVERY AMAZING COLOR THEIR WEBSITE HAS TO CHECK FOR CONSISTENCY.
